Yesterday was Sunday, so we went to church. As Rosemary is a good Catholic girl, we went to a Catholic church, which was a bit of an adventure to find–and a bit of an adventure for us Protestants to follow the service, but we managed.
They were holding a special service celebrating priests (apparently the ‘Year of the Priest’ ended last week) which included a beautiful blessing kind of thing where various lay ministry people placed their hands under the priests’ hands. Then the deacon talked about the priests’ hands: the babies they’d baptised with those hands, the communion they’d served, etc. It was my favorite part of the service. That and actually seeing the Knights of Columbus in action–I’ve only seen them in parades & at the McKinney Memorial Day program in the cemetery.
Guess what we had for lunch? That’s right, another bowl of chowdah! And this…
After lunch it was Sunday afternoon, so we did what one is supposed to do on Sunday afternoon. Nap.
Eventually we dragged ourselves out of bed and went for a walk on the beach. Well, Rosemary and I did…Vikki is a champion napper, so we left her in the arms of Morpheus and went exploring.
The tide was going out and many people were digging clams. Rosemary found a snail-y thing (my grasp of marine life is tenuous at best, sorry)
and a live scallop. The scallop objected to her poking and squeezing so it pinched her. Then when she shrieked and dropped it, it sat on the beach chattering, opening & closing its shell for all it was worth. I didn't know they did that in real life! It was a highlight of my walk.
Here’s what they look like when they’re ready to eat:
We wandered by many beautiful houses, including this one…
…and ended the day with a glimpse of a tall ship away off in the fog.
Monday may be a more exciting day…or not. We are here to relax, after all.
