Shortly after I began my career at Women of Faith, I heard rumblings of an office move. That was almost seven years ago. This week we actually packed up our stuff and Friday it all goes to spiffy new digs. Will we miss the old location, over a pet shop, consignment store, and CiCi’s Pizza? Well, it was fun to take the occasional puppy-petting break, but otherwise, no. Not really. Not at all.
Since the new WoFfice is across town—and since the kitchen appliances already left, so lunch was problematic anyway—we decided to do a little farewell tour of our favorite local restaurants before we leave the area. Today we went to Chocolate Angel.
Like the old WoFfice, the outside of Chocolate Angel is located in a strip center and not particularly impressive. Inside, it’s a different story. Very tea-room-chic. I’ve only ever seen a couple of men there and they tend to look a little sheepish. But if you want a place to go with the girls and Richardson, Texas is in driving range, this is where you want to meet.
Molly has apparently joined the Witness Protection Program; that’s her behind the menu.
Oh, the food? Oh, it’s fabulous.
Sally can never pass up “Some Like It Hot,” a grilled pimento cheese experience involving candied jalapenos, bacon, and other extras.
Their Tomato Basil Soup rivals La Madeleine’s—and if you’re familiar with that establishment, you know what a ringing endorsement that is. Sorry, I didn’t manage to snap the other plates, but they were pretty much variations on that theme.
Note the square red item on the plate: It’s called “Strawberry Pretzel Congealed Salad.” Now I don’t know about you, but I do not find the word “congealed” to be appetizing. This salad, on the other hand, is. I don’t eat Jello as a rule, but rules were made to be broken and this is the best excuse I know. It’s fruity, creamy, crunchy, sweet, salty goodness. You must try it. Your life will be the poorer if you don’t.
Farewell, Chocolate Angel. You’re too far from our new place to be a viable lunch option, but we will remember you–and your luscious, if poorly-named salad–fondly.
