Have you ever gone without eating. . .
not because you couldn’t decide what to eat,
or because you hadn’t made it to the grocery store,
or because you had other things to do,
or because you chose to fast…
but because you (or your family) could not afford to buy food?
Today, here in the United States, one out of five kids live in households that may or may not have food on the table tonight. These are not just families who can’t be bothered to work or are unemployed. Many of them are good, God-fearing, hardworking parents who are doing the best they can.
You probably sat with some of them in church yesterday.
You probably passed them on your way to work today.
You may work beside some of them.
You may even be them.
This Saturday, The Food Network will air a special presentation about hunger in America and what some people are doing to help. I went to a preview of this show last week; it was heart-wrenching, enlightening, motivating…and ultimately hopeful. It even highlighted some local (to me) folks from Allen & Plano. (Talk about hitting home.)
Please watch it. Set your DVR or set an alarm. It’s just one hour out of your week. Surely you can spare that?
Hunger Hits Home. Saturday, April 14, at 7 pm (Central) on The Food Network.
